Background (from the Official Site for Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi)
Sgt. Tahmooressi is currently being held in a Mexican Prison since March 31st 2014. Andrew was in San Diego receiving treatment for a recently diagnosed PTSD condition when he made a wrong turn and ended up at the Mexican border. He informed the border patrol agents he did not want to enter Mexico and that he had all his belongings with him including three personal firearms that are legally registered to him. Andrew placed a 911 call to seek help, but they informed him that if he already crossed into Mexico, they could not help him, and he was subsequently arrested on weapons charges and held in Tijuana’s La Mesa Penitentiary. There, he was threatened by inmates, stripped and beaten repeatedly by guards, denied water, and chained to his cot for more than 30 days. He has since been moved to El Hongo prison in Tecarte.

Support HRes. 620 and HRes. 612
House Resolutions #620 and #612 were introduced by Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) on June 11, 2014. There are currently 81 co-sponsors of this BI-PARTISAN legislation.
HRes. 620 summary is as follows:
Expresses the sense of the House of Representatives that: (1) the government of Mexico should release U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi and provide for his return to the United States so he can receive appropriate medical assistance, and (2) the President should utilize the full powers and authorities of his office to secure Sgt. Tahmooressi’s release.
The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on June 11, 2014 and referred to the House Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Foreign Affairs, who subsequently referred to the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere on September 8, 2014. The bill is scheduled for _____________
HRes. 612 summary is as follows:
Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Government of Mexico should forthwith repatriate Sgt. Andrew Paul Tahmooressi from Mexican prison(s) and expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the President of the United States should take actions to impose sanctions on Mexico until such time as Sgt. Tahmooressi is released.
Sean Hannity mentions in his tweet below, the House Foreign Affairs Committee has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday October 1. Can you believe this is during recess? His question is paramount, will they return to uphold their responsibility to protect America and seek the release of Andrew Tahmooressi?
I believe it is important to list EACH of the 81 co-sponsors of both HRes. 620 and HRes. 621 and have done so here. Please be sure to thank each of them! If your Representative IS NOT on this list, call their D.C. and local offices and REQUEST they co-sponsor this vital set of legislation!.

Update: From @ABC
The only accurate summary of the coverage on Phil Robertson’s unfortunate interview with GQ is: it’s all over the place. And it is not exactly what, or from where, you would expect.
As I was preparing this post, this post from Forbes about how Phil’s PR team let him down was released. I had a side splitting laugh at this one. As if Phil Robertson, or Duck Commander for that matter, would have a PR team to rival GLAAD or A&E. If so, a little advice for you guys, the right thing to do would have been to turn the interview down flat. And here is why…
First, Phil was totally set up by GQ
If you haven’t read the actual article from GQ, do! There is only one reason GQ would want to speak with Phil about his religious views. They knew what they were after, and they got it. If the PR team let Phil down, it was by giving GQ a full day of unfettered access. There were many great choices through which Phil could have born his soul, and this was the least desirable.
Anyone in PR probably knew immediately, within a few paragraphs, and even the author admits, this was a very long day of Phil talking. The author describes Phil’s conversation style in many ways, including proselytizing, and pulls a handful of extremely controversial quotes from what was hours of conversation.
If there is anything I have learned in this business – a reporter prints what he/she wants. If you talk long enough, they will get it. In case you missed it before – GQ went to Louisiana to get something. It may have taken most of a day, but they got it.
Pure hysteria ensued
Almost immediately after the the issue hit the newstands, GLAAD issued a press release condemning the comments – a few quotes pulled into the GQ interview – and acting as if his comments were just about them. Jeremy Hooper actually pointed out on the Kelly File that “none of us are free from consequences”. Interesting that these groups are only interested in consequences for those that oppose their lifestyle on Biblical principle. All others seem to get a pass.
As usual Huffington Post takes the cake
What may have been the most melodramatic, biased and hate inciting article of all came, of course, compliments of the Huffington Post. This is like a game of broken telephone. A few controversial quotes taken from hours of dialogue, or monologue, requoted even further out of context and peppered with biased opinion. Now that’s real journalism, huh?
Some fairness locally
But at least you can count on your local media, sometimes, to be somewhat fair and balanced about things. The local Shreveport paper put some perspective to the debate. And a North Carolina Fox affiliate obtained some perspective from Franklin Graham of what Phil may have been attempting to convey, in the hours that he spent with GQ.
That is, as long as your locale wasn’t LA. Regionally, local outlet seemed to be chasing the demographic closest to them. I guess you can’t blame them. It all boils down to business in the end.
Total lack of understanding – Jim Crow Controversy
Then the media really started to show their total lack of understand of southerners, Christians and especially the combination. Phil is being vilified because he actually remembers a time when black and white did not hate one another. Quite the contrary, out in the sticks, we actually got along, loved each other, and still do. What the elites in Washington, New York and LA do not understand, is that what Phil said, in some corners of the south, was actually true. By 1950 blacks and whites worked the fields together, did business together, and even broke bread together. No, this was not the case everywhere, and conditions were bad for many, but that doesn’t make Phil’s statement false. There is not an ounce of so-called ‘white privilege’ in Phil Robertson, and he has no reason to misrepresent his perception of life. He made no reference to Jim Crow, and just because the timing overlapped, it is inaccurate and biased for the media to apply that meaning to his words. But Phil’s truth does not fit the victim narrative, and that is vested interest if I’ve ever seen one.
The appropriate response – one very unlikely source
The most appropriate responses probably came from Greg Gutfeld and TMZ (the most unlikely of all). Their take? A&E knew exactly what they were getting, made tons of money off of it for four years, and to feign shock and outrage – or even just disappointment – now is at best disingenuous and at worse pandering.
And after all that…
Jan 21 – In what seems to be a Bizarre Back peddle one can only assume was the result of a pre-season, pre-marathon promotional push by A&E, attempting to ease out of the controversy and into the new season. And sources at A&E tell The Huffington Post that they expect the series and Phil to be back. Really? YAWN!
Like most things from the left, it’s been a slow creep, but lately has been building to a crescendo.
In late 2012, just before the elections, the mainstream press began, slowly, to admit there was was a left leaning bias or ‘genuine affection’ for Obama.
But the recent tsunami started in August, when New York Times Editor, Margaret Sullivan, admitted her paper’s liberal bias.
Then in October, there was a jaw dropping admission by none other than Chris Matthews, Democrat politician turned TV personality, that even he gets pressure from producers and the network to ‘lean left’.
And yesterday, the crescendo. A Politico panel of journalists reached a consensus. There is a general liberal bias in the media.
Thanks Politico. Appreciate the heads up!
There is only one real story from last week, and it is a continuing theme from the week before. As you’ll remember, our November 25 Wrap Up included a story or two regarding the Obama Administration’s manipulation of the press. First they investigate, wire tap, and illegally seize their property; they stonewall all their questions; and last week, they close photographer access. Then, they hit a holiday triple.
We all know the trick. You don’t have to be a Public Relations professional. The 4:00 PM Friday press release is a well known tactic-even better if you can take advantage of a national holiday with significant weather challenges and travel. This is what the Executive branch did over the Thanksgiving weekend, not just once, but 3 times.
1.) Small business owners will have to wait 1 year before accessing HC.gov
This again, is not about big corporate employers. They are all safe in their self insured plans. This is about employees of franchisers that provide opportunities for entrepreneurs like Papa John’s, of mid-sized retailers, of small mom and pop business that have been providing insurance for their employees for decades. These employees and their employers have been waiting, via direction from the government and their insurance companies (that also received their direction from the government). So what was buried here? That millions of Americans, those who have jobs and those who create them, are out in the cold. Employees and organizations who previously had insurance with which – we would have to assume via the polling – at least 60% of them were happy.
2.) New IRS rules on C4s
Not that any of the mainstream media really cared about this anyway. They were as hungry to see the Tea Party get the Weather Underground treatment as anyone on the left, but this is a big deal. There are dozens of cases pending against the IRS directly related to these rules. Changing those rules mid-game is a big deal, legally speaking. When we say this executive administration is like Nixon on steroids, this is exactly what we mean. It’s like illegally wire tapping a person to obtain probable cause to legally wire tap them. Oh, wait, they did that, too.
Keep in mind that the new rules open the legal door to further debate of social welfare, which will be argued, in and out of the media.
A week that started with the message ‘Talk about ACA over holiday dinner, ended with a “Well, I never said that it would work perfectly…” from Jay Carney. Slowly, starting about Tuesday, the administration started to dial back its much self-heralded success regarding its self imposed relaunch of HealthCare.gov. Slowly, the week turned to..the reports of the site still containing errors rolled out. So, over the weekend – again, a self imposed deadline over a holiday weekend – that’s offshore timing – turned out to be right. The week ended on Twitter…
Except for #3, if you were not watching Fox News, you did not see any of the stories above. So, the one, real story from last week? This administration plans to use every trick in the book to implement as many game-changers as possible, and the people are at the mercy of a barely free press.
The mainstream press is not quite run by the government, but nearly as one-sided as if it were – going after stories only begrudgingly if they may have a negative impact on public opinion toward the president and looking for any excuse to ignore a negative story or swiftly move to the next thing.
Reposted from Red Nation Rising
UPDATE: The press continues to increase scrutiny of the Obama administration. Since this blog was first posted, the mainstream media has broken multiple stories involving misleading information, inappropriate snooping, abuse of press freedoms and outright lies. It’s become so common that we will analyze it here frequently. Watch for our press wrap ups. Feeling pretty good about these early predictions below.
More proof that the seizure of AP and Fox News records may not have been the Obama Administration’s wisest move, Fox or not. FOIAs are flying, the latest of which revealed the keywords that constitute ‘reasonable suspicion’ for NSA PRISM program.
FOIAs Sail through the Air with the Greatest of Ease
If you’ve noticed, each time there is a new leak, a denial or revelation during a House hearing, subsequent revelations follow. Most, if not all, of these post shocker revelations expose further details bout the the topic at hand. Many of them are FOIA enabled. Others are products of follow-up leaks and fact-checks. Let’s look at an example.
Panetta revealed the identity of SEAL team 6 members
This leak was always blamed on Joe Biden. True, Biden revealed the number of the SEAL team to media shortly after the raid, but he was not the real culprit. This particular story regarding Panetta surfaced, however, immediately after David Gregory, ABC News, claimed Panetta was the impetus for the Rosen investigation. Almost immediately the story of Panetta’s unfortunate remarks emerged. (Yes, I did just link to Politico to show how far this thing has gone.) In addition to putting American military families in danger, Panetta revealed secret and top secret information in his public comments to a crowd that included attendees with no security clearance at all!
But this was not a new story. The media had heard about this leak. I had heard about it. But the MSM chose not to report it. That love affair is clearly over.
I believe this revelation was the product of a follow-up leak, but could have been a simple fact check of Panetta’s history with leaks. Either way, these are both activities in which the mainstream rarely engaged with regards to this administration. Previously.
Whistleblowers Take Flight
Whistleblowers from either the NSA or Verizon OGC, wanted to tell the story of PRISM. Clapper was asked by Congress and denied the existence of such a program. But with all the surveillance and investigation of reporters where would a whistleblower go with that explosive info? Wisely, the UK. the Guardian, a UK Media outlet, broke the PRISM story. And what a story it was.
Our government has not only lied to us about the nature of Patriot Act enabled surveillance, they’ve pushed the limits of that legislation, according to its architect, beyond what it was attended to allow.
As if that were not bad enough, former NSA employees have stepped forward, embraced by the scorned media, to explain the nature of the information gathered. PRISM meta data can actually, aided by the super computers that run it, reveal much more about you than the actual content of your communication. The administration is hiding this fact, but I don’t think that will last long.
This story was initially generated by a leak, later aided by FOIA requests. Though congress says PRISM is nothing new, and the story was originally identified by conservative sources in September 2012, the administration feels this is a leak worth investigating and vows to prosecute. Give us a break.
Only time will tell. One thing is for certain: the First Amendment, the entire Bill of Rights, is under attack. Foolishly, arrogantly, this administration believed that they could abuse the freedoms of the press in the process.
One thing you can never do with the press is lie. They hate it. It truly keeps me going, just knowing there will be another story breaking any minute now…
